As the Jewish community enters the year 5772, it does so with hopes for a good year for renewal through an ambitious outreach program

Meredith Cawley spent most of her 12 years disconnected from her Jewish heritage. But as Rosh Hashana begins tonight, she will celebrate the Jewish New Year as a member of a Reform synagogue and a seventh-grader at Community Day School, a Jewish K-8 in Squirrel Hill.

It happened because a new local endowment, the Centennial Fund for a Jewish Future, gave a scholarship for her to attend a Jewish camp and then paid for her first year at day school.

"Every time I attend services here in the morning, I think about how lucky I am that this was able to happen," Meredith said......

Pittsburgh Jewish Early Childhood Education Initiative

The Centennial Fund for a Jewish Future in partnership with the Agency for Jewish Learning (AJL) recently sponsored the first of two back-to-school in-services for Jewish early childhood professionals. Both in-services are entitled, Energizing the Imagination and Potential of Early Childhood Professionals: the Reggio Emilia Approach and will help to frame the work this year with the Pittsburgh Jewish Early Childhood Education Initiative (JECEI) Pilot.

Centennial Fund Reaches to Israel – and Back

This summer, thanks to the Centennial Fund for a Jewish Future, 48 teens traveled through Israel on an expedition to hone their leadership skills and coalesce as a group. The result: Better camp counselors and stronger Jewish ties.
